What information does a WHOIS lookup show?
A WHOIS record can include: domain registrar name, registration and expiry dates, name servers, and — where not redacted — the registrant's name, organisation, address, phone number, and email. Since GDPR, most personal data for EU registrants is masked.
Why is some WHOIS data hidden or redacted?
Under GDPR and similar privacy regulations, domain registrars are required to mask personal contact information for individuals registering domains. The ICANN-mandated Temporary Specification for gTLD Registration Data has made redacted WHOIS the default for most .com, .org, and .net domains.
Can I look up any domain TLD, not just .com?
Most gTLDs (.com, .net, .org, .io, .co, etc.) and many ccTLDs are supported. Some country-code TLDs (like .uk, .de, .jp) use their own WHOIS systems with different data policies and may return limited results.
How current is the WHOIS data returned?
WHOIS data is pulled in real time from the authoritative registry for each TLD. Changes to registration details — such as renewals, transfers, or updated name servers — are typically reflected within hours of the update being processed by the registrar.
Is the domain I look up tracked or logged?
The lookup query goes to the domain's public WHOIS registry — a public service by design. We do not log or store the domains you query beyond the current browser session.
